Recognized by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars, Formula One continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
The Unprecedented Season
The 2020 Formula One season faced unprecedented challenges due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Originally scheduled to begin in March, the season was postponed until July. With a record-breaking 22 Grands Prix on the calendar, certain races have been canceled, while others await rescheduling. The season commenced with the heart-pounding Austrian Grand Prix in July.
The Reigning Champions
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes reigned supreme in 2019, clinching the titles of World Drivers’ Champion and World Constructors’ Champion for the sixth time. With their dominant performance, they continue to be the drivers and team to watch in the 2020 Formula One season.

Calendar Changes
Under Liberty Media’s management, Formula One aimed to expand its calendar with “destination races” that integrate racing, entertainment, and social functions to appeal to a wider audience. Two successful bids emerged from this concept:
-
Vietnamese Grand Prix: This exciting race was scheduled to take place in Hanoi on the Hanoi Street Circuit. Although initially set for April 2020, it has been postponed.
-
Dutch Grand Prix: After a 35-year hiatus, the Dutch Grand Prix was set to make a comeback at the Circuit Zandvoort. Unfortunately, the race was canceled for 2020.
As Liberty Media sought to expand the calendar to 21 Grands Prix, negotiations with teams allowed for up to 22 races. Consequently, the German Grand Prix was discontinued, and the Mexican Grand Prix was rebranded as the “Mexico City Grand Prix.”
