The 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship is the 70th running of the Formula One World Championship. As the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars, it is recognized by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). This championship consists of numerous Grands Prix held in various countries across the world. Drivers will compete for the title of World Drivers’ Champion, while teams will vie for the World Constructors’ Champion. The 2019 championship is also significant as it marks the running of the 1000th World Championship race in China.
The defending World Drivers’ Champion is Lewis Hamilton, who clinched his fifth championship title at the 2018 Mexican Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Mercedes is the defending World Constructors’ Champion, triumphing at the 2018 Brazilian Grand Prix for the fifth consecutive season.
