The Date is Set!
During the press conference held at the Musée des 24 Heures on June 16th, the FIA World Motor Sport Council officially confirmed the dates for the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans – June 17th and 18th, 2017. Racing enthusiasts around the world can mark their calendars and prepare for an adrenaline-fueled weekend that will leave them breathless.
Regulations Revamped
In addition to announcing the race dates, the World Motor Sport Council also approved changes to the technical regulations for LM P1 prototypes entered by private teams. These modifications aim to level the playing field and bridge the performance gap between hybrid LM P1s entered by manufacturers and their counterparts without energy recovery systems reserved for private teams.
The updated regulations include the following enhancements:
- Increase in the width of the rear spoiler and front part of the body
- Minimum weight reduced to 830 kg
- Only one fuel flowmeter
- More torque meters
- No limit on the number of engines utilized
- No restrictions on engine capacity
These changes will come into effect next year, allowing private teams to compete on a more equal footing with manufacturers. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest emphasized the importance of the involvement of private outfits, and these modifications are a testament to their commitment to ensuring an exciting and competitive race.
